Assessment of the modified method of group training in the teaching of general embryology to students of higher medical institutions

Abstract

Encouraging the participation of students in the learning process, the authors introduced changes to the method of group learning, which changed the presentation on two topics from the general embryology. The purpose of the study was to assess students' perceptions of this method in comparison with the lecture-form training. To do this, the method of questioning was used at the Department of Anatomy of the Indian Medical College. Materials and methods. In general, in the general course of embryology, eight sections were identified. The study of six of them was conducted using the traditional didactic method of lectures. Assimilation of the other two sections was carried out with the help of a modified method of group learning. The students were divided into five groups, each of which received a set of materials containing basic factual information, four clinical history histories and preliminary exam questions on topics. During the discussion of what happened in the presence of the teacher, students were able to evaluate the classes using questionnaires. Results Thus, most students noted that learning with the help of a modified group method facilitated the accomplishment of tasks (46 students, 85%), made it possible to better understand the teaching material (43 students, 79%), became more interesting (43 students, 81%), provided mass participation of students in the educational process (51 students, 94%) and the application of their greater efforts (53 students, 98%). The vast majority of students (43 students, 79%) noted that in the future it is necessary to organize such classes more often. Conclusions Student responses indicate that group method classes can be used cautiously to study general e-bryology along with traditional didactic lectures.
